Zimmerman was engaged to design the innovative Nutex Health Emergency Department and Micro-Hospital facility which delivers crucial medical care to underserved communities. It provides a highly efficient alternative to long waits at major hospitals.
The transformative facility features advanced clinical spaces and includes eight emergency treatment rooms and eight secure inpatient rooms. Patients also benefit from comprehensive diagnostic imaging, a pharmacy, and a laboratory.
Nutex primarily operates in the southern United States, so Zimmerman delivered expertise on Wisconsin’s unique building requirements. For example, state regulations require two separate fuel sources for hospitals—an uncommon practice in warmer climates. We efficiently and successfully integrated these essential standards into the design.
Our team expertly navigated the City of Milwaukee and DHS review process. We obtained all necessary approvals and permits from regulatory entities. By initiating early meetings and maintaining open, proactive communication, we ensured the permitting phase proceeded smoothly and efficiently.
Delivering the Nutex Health Emergency Department and Micro-Hospital required a precise, strategic approach to construction. We issued multiple bid packages in phases while securing design and budget approvals. Zimmerman guided the early selection of a skilled Construction Manager for preconstruction planning. This proactive integration ensured every phase—including permitting and bidding—remained in sync. As a result, this innovative strategy accelerated construction, cutting the timeline by three months.
