When determining the location for their latest facility, GEA’s primary objective was to strengthen its presence among their growing Midwest customer base. As a global company, GEA recognized their clients’ preference for “made in America” products and aimed to establish a new space in proximity to the industries they serve. With established markets in pharmaceuticals, dairy, food, and the marine industry, GEA identified Janesville as an ideal location to better connect with clients in these sectors. Choosing Janesville as their new base, GEA focused on engaging and retaining employees in Southern Wisconsin.
The 86,000 sq. ft. facility, catering to fabrication, repair, logistics, and training needs, comprises various areas including corporate offices, conference rooms, training facilities, cafeteria spaces, locker rooms, huddle rooms, and the main entrance lobby. Additionally, the facility accommodates tooling and refurbishing zones equipped with crane bays, wash-down areas, lab facilities, dye testing, balancing and centrifuge sections, and racking segments for parts and product storage.
GEA’s ambitious sustainability goals required a Net-Zero Carbon facility design in line with EU Taxonomy standards and compliance with FM Global facility regulations. A solar photovoltaic array was integrated to offset carbon emissions, ensuring environmental sustainability and operational efficiency. Incorporating features such as LED lighting, solar panels, water reuse systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and a high-efficiency heating and cooling system, the facility aligns with GEA’s vision for an environmentally sustainable facility.
Multiple bid packages and collaboration with a construction management partner were integral in enhancing project delivery and meeting the aggressive schedule.
