The Cancer Center at Froedtert West Bend Hospital Elevates Cancer Care through Patient-Centric Design

Froedtert West Bend Hospital sought to expand access to medical oncology and radiation oncology services in Washington County. To achieve this, they established the new Cancer Center at Froedtert West Bend Hospital. This state-of-the-art facility provides a serene and healing environment, designed to meet the unique needs of cancer patients. The center’s commitment is evident in its focus on privacy, specialized treatment, personalized and coordinated care, convenience, and compassion.

Working closely with hospital stakeholders, we ensured that the addition’s location and the arrangement of program elements resulted in the optimal environment for patient care. This included connecting the addition to the existing part of the hospital campus that provides outpatient oncology care, while the lower level now offers inpatient services. The medical oncology area includes examination space, a laboratory, and an infusion department. Additionally, the radiation oncology area features a linear accelerator for radiation therapy, consolidating different levels of care needed in one centralized location.

Within the Cancer Center, patients receiving chemotherapy can relax in a spacious common room with six recliners and a picturesque view of the prairie. For those desiring more privacy, semi-private or private infusion suites are available, providing individuals with the option to rest quietly or have family members by their side.

Located in the lobby, the Small Stones Wellness Center supports the healing process by assisting cancer patients in enhancing their appearance, promoting relaxation, and boosting self-esteem. Beyond treatment, the clinic continues to support cancer patients after cancer through its dedicated cancer survivor center.
